A unit in my building has wall-to-wall carpet that was installed directly on the subflooring by a previous owner. Recently, the subfloor beneath the carpet has been "sinking" in small random areas. This is causing spongy sink holes that are about 1" to 2" in diameter (about 8 holes at this point). What is causing these holes and how can they be repaired without removing the entire carpet? Thanks a lot for any advice.
