Softener is about 13 years old. I called someone to come and look at it...he showed/told me that a tab broke off the cam gear turned by a small electric motor that makes the softener cycle.
I bought a new cam gear and installed it, but my question NOW is in regard to the softener's cycles. It's supposed to take 2 hours to do a complete recharge. I started the softener back up...and 3 hours LATER, the motor was STILL cycling! No end in sight!
Is this normal? Is it because the softener water tank was completely empty? Do I have other issues? I have manual cycle test procedures in the softener owner manual, but they can't be done until the valve/cam gear stops revolving.
Thanks for helping!
