  • Impact from Hurricane Irene

We are in NJ and have been hit pretty heavy by this hurricane.
I am walking thru the whole house and discovering something new every time. The garage has a separate roof from the rest of the house. The laundry room shares the same wall with the Garage. I see that the wall has wrinkled from top to bottom from the laundry room side. Looks like the whole painted sheet is coming off of the wall. Also see some water dripping thru the basement ceiling.

Do you know how to detect a leakage in the roof? How can you do a spot repair for the roof? Not sure what my first step is here. Not looking for an expensive solution at this time.

If it's water you should be able to feel it and see it, peel a small section of the paint back and look for dis-colorization of the drywall, or powdery drywall. Poke it with a pin if it goes in very easy the drywall has/is wet, a pin will go in sort of easy but it shouldn't be "very" easy, you should feel resistance.
Usually roof leaks also show up on ceilings as well, most obvious by water stains.
Little about a lot and a lot about a little.
Every day is a learning day.
