Radon Mitigation?

Has anyone installed or hired a radon mitigation company. I am selling my home in Michigan and have a level of 6 whatever units.
I was told a system would cost around a thousand dollars, but also priced out a weekend project on doityourselfradon.com.
I'm handy, but I don't know if I should try this one.
Just looking for advice, thanks

Hi John,

I live in Ohio (go bucks), and had a very similar experience. I installed a unit myself, and it wasn't that bad.
I got PVC and downspout from Home Depot, ordered the fan, the testing unit and a few other parts, and had it done in a day.
If your handy I think that you'll be able to handle it.

It's not that hard to install a mitigation system. By fan selection is best left up to the pros. Too much power and you could be sucking the radon AND the conditioned air ,guess that would usually be heat in MI, up the system and out into the rest of the world.

Too little power and the radon level stays above 4 pc/l. Then your future home buyer wants a system that works. By the way homes that have mitigation systems should have their radon levels checked every two years.

They are pretty easy to install but it really depends on the foundation of your house and how the house sits atop the foundation. It also depends on the tools you have. I had to use a right angle drill to actually get through the outer joist and outside with the pipe. Keep in mind that if you drill into the floor in an area with poor circulation, yiou may have to drill again in another spot for the system to be effective enough to drop the level below 4 picocuries/litre. Also, make sure you run the spout outside all the way up to an eve to a higher pouint than the highest window and away from any attic vents.
