Exterior chimney brick

Hello all.
How do i remove some cracked/chipped/weathered bricks from my chimney? Should I use a masonry saw , or hammer and chisel? Any other ideas on how to remove them? I am able to lay the mortar and bricks , just unsure how to remove the bricks.

Hammer and a cold chisel with a 30 degree bevel on the tip. Chip easily at the old mortar. Wet the brick down with water and butter your new bricks with mortar and install.
