  • Condensation in crawl space

8 years ago we ripped out the kitchen floor (10x20) down to the dirt and replaced everything-installing a vapor barrier-overlap about 15"-seams not sealed-and insulation with the kraft paper up. Last week we noticed a soft sopt-removed a tile and the sub-floor was wet. The insulation in a 5' x 8' (middle of the room against the end wall) was saturated-the vapor barrier was dry, but we had mold and termites had moved in. We have ripped all the bad out again-3 joists and the insuslation and vapor barrier in this area. Why only this area? What do we do to prevent this? Install another vapor barrier? How about the rest of the kitchen? Right now it is dry and no bugs (termites are being taken care of as we speak). Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I can find nothing about this anywhere on the web--Thanks so much for your help!

Here's a great article on sealing your crawlspace, it used to be free, but gotta pay now. It shows how to keep it dry buy closing the vents and not allowing the humidity in. Plus lots of other details in preperation. Hope this helps.
