  • Window Install (2 in single opening)

I'm looking to install two double hung windows in a single hole. What is the piece called that will go between the two windows? Some type of mullion?

I've installed windows in the past, not a problem, but with installing two separate windows in a single opening, I am concerned as to how the windows will be secure in the center.

    Thanks.

Yes the piece in the middle is called the mullion. Two double hung windows are manufactured as a dual unit. The casing or the part that goes around the slide up - down windows the horizontal top and bottom are one piece. This gives the unit strength for both windows. There are several pieces of other wood that go up and down in the casing for the window slide channel. If you can install one stud between the two windows and make a molding that would cover both casings, you could do it.
