  • Cigarette smoke

    Hi all,

A renter just moved out of one of my rental property. However, she was a chain smoker. The house is empty but it still smells like cigarette smoke. I have opened all the windows to try to ventilate it. Unfortunately, the cigarette odor still exists. I think it maybe in the carpet or vent.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how to get rid of cigarette smoke odor?

    Thanks!

    Krysti,

I had a house that I smoked in for 10 years and when I went to sell the house, I heard that some people we not looking at the house because of the smoke smell. I painted every wall and ceiling in the house. Still smoke smell, so I replaced all of the upstairs carpet and we added new drapes. We moved out of the house completly taking eveything that could carry the smoke smell. It still had the smoke smell. Not as bad as it was before, but it was still there. As a smoker, I can not smell it at all, but you non-smokers, like my mother, can smell it a mile away. I would have to say that the vents need to be cleaned out or cleaned, if possible. That was the only thing that I did not have done to my house. It sold to a smoking couple. Hope that this helps in some way.

Thanks so much Decoster. Your story was helpful. It was nice to hear from the other side. I will definitely look into cleaning the vent.

      Have a great day!
