Hi, I have drawn up a diagram with three scenarios. Hope you can follow them. FIRST is a switch controlling the outlet. SECOND is - outlet always HOT switch controlling external load. THIRD - Outlet always HOT, switch used in a switch loop - power to the load comes from a source "OTHER" than where the switch/outlet is located.
