  • Maytag Gas Range Odor Problem

    Maytag MGR5770BDB Gas Range:
A mouse crawled up inside the fire-box, which we discovered after setting the oven to pre-heat at 450 and leaving the room for about 10 minutes. We couldn't even stay in the house. Ran the oven on clean for 3 hours, then 6 hours. Still has a horible smell. Opened all windows and ran whole house fan for several hours (in January!!!). Ended up having to rent an ozone generator and leaving the house for 2 days, which finally made the house livable. Nothing inside the oven, or under the lower plate. Don't know where the remnants are, but will throw the oven away if I can't clean out the charred remains. Any idea on how to get into the oven internals? Cannot find a manual online. Co-worker warned not to dismantle oven or I will damage gas seals. Not sure how true that is. Any ideas, warnings or "just go for it" with regards to tearing the oven apart to get to the remains?

    Insulation infestation?

Rodents like to nest (and defecate) in the insulation around the oven cavity. There may be a good chance that insulation needs to be replaced.

The manual titled "Maytag Free-standing Gas & Electric Range Repair Manual" at the following page should cover the basics of your model range.
