Dishwasher not filling we think

We have a Kenmore Ultra Wash Quiet Guard Deluxe dishwasher. We start it and hear some water going into the tub, but then it stops. There is a buzzing noise for a bit and then nothing. When we open the door we see some water. The float thingy is working. Anything else we can check? We took off the inlet valve. The screen is clean. Now what? Thanks for the help.

I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its exact model number. If you post it we can at least look it up to see what appliance design you're dealing with.

From what component of the dishwasher?

When we open the door we see some water.

How much is "some"? How high is the water in the tub compared to the heating element?


Has the dishwasher just been installed or has it functioned properly in the same installation previously?


What is the actual complaint with the dishwasher. Is it not washing properly (or at all)???

It is suppose to stop filling at some point. How long does it fill for exactly?
It fills for less than a minute - the water that's in there is roughly below the heating element.

The washer has been working since 5/09. Without a problem.

After we hear the water stop, there's a buzzing noise and then it doesn't seem to do anything else. The buzzing noise lasts for about 20 seconds and then nothing after that. It just stops and does not wash. We're not sure where the noise is coming from.

Motor humming?

That sounds about right.

After we hear the water stop, there's a buzzing noise and then it doesn't seem to do anything else.

After filling stops the pump motor should run. If it couldn't run for some reason, the motor might just buzz/hum until the motor's internal overload protector cut power to it as a safety precaution. The water level would have nothing to do with the motor's operation.

Someone might need to see if the pump is jammed up somehow stopping the motor as a result or test whether the motor is just defective and needs to be replaced.
