  • Whirlpool Gold Washer Model GSQ934E0Q0 Howling

My Whirlpool Gold Washer (Model# GSQ9340EQ0) has stopped working. When the wash cycle reaches the agitation point, the washer makes a loud howling noise (more like loud gargling) with no agitation. I took off the cover and see the motor shaft end connected to the water pump spinning. The noise is from the vicinity of the motor but it is hard to pinpoint its exact origin.

Any help on what may be wrong and how to troubleshoot is highly appreciated. I am good with mechanical and electrical repairs as long as they don't require too much strength.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. BTW, made another observation which may be related or not. There are three wires bringing in the wall AC into the unit. The wires enter the unit and then connect to unit electronics with a 3 pin connector. Right at this connector, the top black wire and the socket hole it goes into are brownish, as if something burned there. Should I be worried about this, especially since judging from the racket the unit seems to be getting the power?

I found a listing for a model number GSQ9340EQ0. Did you perhaps make a transposition error when copying it here?

Will the machine spin the tub during spin?

The noise is from the vicinity of the motor
Someone might need to inspect the motor coupling (see the following links). It is a common failure point and would usually affect both agitation and spin.

I would definitely suggest someone try to determine the cause. I doubt it has anything to do with your stated problem though but might be a sign of an impending failure.

You are correct - I did make an error in listing the model number. It is Model# GSQ9340EQ0 (I have corrected the OP).

The machine will neither agitate nor spin. Just a high pitch gargling noise. Would a bad transmission coupling cause this kind of noise?

Haha... took the motor off and found the coupler split in two halves! Thanks a ton!!! Going to order one online, or can I get one in a local hardware store?

Glad to hear you found the problem.

It is not the sort of thing a hardware store would usually sell, no. An appliance parts supplier would though.
