  • Dishwasher fills with water after cycle

It goes thru the normal cycle fine. After an hour or so, it's all done. The plates are dry and the inside of the dishwasher is dry. When I look again after several minutes, the dishwasher is filling up with water. Its filling up slowly and I think (need to verify this), water is dripping from the inside top part of it? After a while water leaks out to the floor.

    Any ideas?

    Make? Model number?

    Dishwasher
I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its brand name and exact model number. If you post that information we can at least look it up to see what appliance design you're dealing with.

There shouldn't be any water coming from any part of the spray system without the main motor running. Condensation drops could possibly be forming on the ceiling and dripping down. That would have to be verified. I wouldn't expect such a condition to produce much water though.

The water fill valve could be leaking and allowing water to seep through it when it is not being powered and should be closed.

        .

If water is entering the machine through the dishwasher's fill valve (the most likely cause of water filling when not in use), there could either be too low of water pressure to the water fill valve (pressure needs to be at least 20 psi for the valve to close properly) or a problem with the water valve itself (see the following link).

Check to make sure the tap for the dishwasher's water supply is on and there are no sediment screens in the water line at the water valve that might be plugged. Failing that, a defective water valve is the most likely cause of filling even when not in use.
