  • Need Help w/ Magic Chef Gas Wall Oven

I have a Magic Chef wall oven, model number 9112 VPV.

The broiler works. The oven does not.

When I turn on the oven, the broiler comes on not the oven. I've looked at Appliance411 and appliancepartspros.com and wonder if its the ignitor but I do not know where this igniter is located. Can someone help me?

As near as I can tell there is only one burner used in your oven. On such oven designs the same burner and ignitor are used for both bake and broil functions, just cooking below the burner for broil and above the burner for bake.

    Please clarify the complaint.

I believe you are correct. It does appear as though the same burner and ignitor are used for both bake and broil functions.

Therefore, I am wondeing if I replace the one and only, if this will solve my baking problem?

If the ignitor, gas valve and burner work on any setting none of them are a problem.

If you clarify the complaint as was asked previously we'll see if we can suggest a course of action. Please tell us exactly what is occurring in as much detail as possible.

Thank you for your reply. First, this is NOT a complaint. Quite simply, my oven does not work.

My oven/broiler has one (1) knob. When I turn the knob to set the oven temperature, the broiler comes on. It doesn't matter if I set the oven temperature to 200 degrees or 425 degrees. The result is the same.

I ran two (2) tests. I baked cornbread one day; Blueberry muffins a 2nd day. In both cases, both items baked quicker than their suggested time. And, the broiler operated as opposed to the oven.

I took a number of pictures to show you or someone else. I just need an email address and I will be more than happy to send them to you.

            Too hot on bake???

When I turn the knob to set the oven temperature, the broiler comes on.
We've established that the the same burner is used for both bake and broil so how are you differentiating bake from broil??

If the oven is just getting too hot on bake, the thermostat is about the only thing that could be responsible. Which thermostat your model uses will depend on the serial number of your range in addition to its model number you've already posted.

            JFYI

              Dan O,

I replaced the thermostat with a brand new one. The problem still exists.

What is the serial number of the appliance so we can look it up and see what control it uses?
