  • Kitchenaid dishwasher -- repair or replace?

It's five years old. We've been happy with it. But today it won't turn on and everything I've read suggests that the likely solution is to replace the control panel. If that's true, the service call and part would come in just under $300. What I'd like to know is whether I'm likely to get many more years of use out of the dishwasher if I replace this part or whether it's probably only got a couple more years left in it anyway and I might just be better off starting all over again (e.g. to avoid (ok, postpone) future hassle or because dishwashers have gotten better or more energy efficient recently).

Model is KUDS02SRWH1. Only button that gets any response is cancel (which makes a draining sound and then shuts off). Tried circuit breaker but that didn't reset the machine.

That could be caused by a problem in the control panel or the electronic control itself.

No one can tell you how long it will continue to work after being repaired but if it's been a reliable machine with no other problems, there's no reason it couldn't last many more years.

I wouldn't suggest you replacing it without finding out for sure what the problem is and exactly how much it will be to repair. That way you can make an informed decision between repair and replacement.
