  • GE Profile Fridge shows "88 88"

I have a GE Profile (PFSS6PKWBSS) with a bottom freezer and water/ice dispenser. We turned off a breaker to do some electrical work when we turned the breaker back on, the display for the water and ice now shows "88 88". The temp on fridge and freezer is holding fine, it just seems to be the display. Did we fry the display board? Or is there a way to reset the display?
    Thanks.

I'm afraid I do not know what that would indicate, sorry. You can try unplugging the fridge for 5 minutes then plugging it back in again to see if the control resets.

If not and you can't find an answer elsewhere, you can check the fridge's 'tech sheet' which should accompany its wiring diagram. That tech sheet may be behind the kickplate, possibly taped to the underside of the cabinet or inside the control console.

Lastly, you can try contacting GE Customer Assistance to see if they can tell you.

If you find the answer, I'm sure others here in the forum would love hearing the results.

I did find out that your model fridge was made for GE by Samsung. This is about the 88 88 display.

Failure Conditions – Initial Power Up

Upon initial power up, if certain failed components have been detected, individual segments of a particular figure “8” will flash to indicate the failed components.

To return the display to normal, simultaneously press the ENERGY SAVER and ALARM/LIGHT pads for 8 seconds.

Note: The failure condition will still exist when returning the display to normal. For proper operation of the refrigerator, correct or replace the faulty component.
Do any of the individual segments of any of the 8's flash or are they all on steadily?

The LED or neon readout is called a seven segment display. The digital display has seven bars and a common return. The display gets its signal from a display driver integrated circuit, each segment is turned on by the ic to form numbers, if some bars are not on, either the IC is faulty or its not just getting a signal from what drives it.

On the OP's appliance each individual LED segment is lighted individually by the electronic control. The specific missing segment(s) is designed to indicate a particular error/fault code although I would assume the same might occur if the LED itself was faulty too.

          JFYI

I understand you Dan, also certain segments could light up to form words or a code number. We'll see what happens.
When my monitor heater loses power I get an 88:88 flashing
