    Bosch Nexxt 500 Washer

    Hi:

    Been having trouble with this washer for about a week now. When the washer goes into the rinse cycle & then drains, water comes out the top of the drain pipe & onto the floor, only does this when it has a load of clothes in it. The repair guy can't find anything wrong, but he has only tried the rinse cycle without clothes in the machine, uses ALOT more water with clothes in it. Had a plumber come, he put a hose in the drain & let the water run, did not back up. Said the drain was OK, but he augered it out anyway. Still have the same problem.

    Almost seems like there is some sort of flow control on the drain that is not working, crazy as that sounds.

    BTW, machine is 5 years old........

    Check the plumbing!

    There should be no problem with the washing machine itself that could cause the drain to overflow so that just leaves the plumbing. The drain is either draining too slowly or it is undersized. If it has worked properly in the past connected to the same plumbing, the drain line being undersized is unlikely IMO.

    I'd suggest you call a different plumber and/or suggest he check the drain line vent if the drain itself is definitely not clogged.

      Hi:

      The plumber did check the vent & it is good. Also extended the drain pipe by another foot......BTW, it is a 2" drain.

      The washer service guy has been in touch with Bosch & here is what we did yesterday: ran a full load of clothes with no soap, drain did not overflow. Ran a full load of clothes with 2 TABLESPOONS of soap & drain did not overflow. I have read on other websites that Bosch is recommending no more than 2 tablespoons of soap per load, which I think is ridiculous, this is not a REAL FIX & I don't really think the clothes will be clean with that little soap. What Bosch is saying makes no sense at all to me.

      Going today to get a new top-loader, I've had enough stress & BS with this thing over the past 2 weeks. We have had 3 front loaders in 10 years......the 2 GE's were shot in 5 years, needed new bearings. The Bosch has lasted 5 years, which makes it the best of the front loaders, but still not acceptable IMO.

        I have a gibson top loader I've had new since 2000. I've changed the drum seal and drum bearing, nothing else has been changed. why go with the exotic washers? Sears has a new millenium front loader, why not go with them?

          Most front load washer manufacturers recommend a similar amount, less in soft water, possibly slightly more in very hard water.

          Front load washers use considerably less water than top load models do. They don't need as much detergent and overuse could actually be detrimental to the cleaning ability. More is not always better. And it has to be HE (high efficiency, low sudsing) detergent.


          I had forgetten about an air lock due to sudsing in the drain water. Using too much detergent could be responsible for that. If you have been using the washer in that same installation and with the same amount of detergent, I would have thought such a problem would have manifested itself before 5 years of use had gone by.

            Hi:

            OK, here's an update. I have talked to several people at work who have all different brands of front loaders. They ALL say that the machines just don't work right if you use more than 2 tablespoons of soap. When I ask if the clothes get clean, they just kind of dance around the question. I have tried this machine with the recommended quantity of soap & it seems to work OK; why it took 5 years for this problem to surface, I don't know......unless, it's from a buildup of soap in the machine. Didn't wash any REALLY DIRTY clothes, so I have no opinion on that.

            Bottom line: I've purchased a Speed Queen top loader to be delivered next Wed. My neighbor wants this machine, he drains into a laundry sink & doesn't care about the overflow problem with the washer drain; he thinks the machine will be just fine for his needs. At least, it's not going to the dump & I SHOULD be rid of the stress.

              Great choice.

              A speed queen top load machine is a great washer. Unless they have recently changed how they manufacture them, they use essentially commercial grade parts. That means they have the same parts that are used in their coin operated machines which see a great deal more use than the one you will have. This means your washer should last many years to come. I am a field tech for a large coin-op route in WA. We use Speed Queen equipment. I see machines on our route that have well beyond 20,000 uses on them. Granted we replace parts as needed.
