GE Profile PEB1590SM2SS microwave.

Hi all,
I have a GE Profile PEB1590SM2SS built-in microwave that only turns on when you pop the door open, but does not turn on heat element. When you close the door, it shuts off and will not turn on at all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as this was not a cheap purchase and I've only had it 2 years.

Symptom of a failed door switch

That is a common symptom of a failed door switch, a fan or the turntable operating when the door is opened.

There are 3 door switches which are activated by the door closing that all have to operate in unison before heating can take place, as a safety precaution. When one fails odd symptoms can occur.

Those door switches will need to be inspected to try to determine the defective one so it can be replaced.

It's not usually considered a major problem.
