My Kenmore (Mdl 110-86576100) dryer "starts hard". Almost a growling sound until the motor actually starts. Runs okay once it starts. Bad motor or centrifugal switch or ???.

Same problem. Except doesn't always start. After you press the start button a couple of times with no luck it will quit the humming noise all together and you can detect a slight burning smell. Any suggestions?Comment

Sounds like the motor is cutting out on its internal overload protector. (it's not meant to be run on just the start winding for an extended period of time). The motor probably needs to be replaced.quote:Originally posted by ahaynes106

Dryer motors usually go from $75 -$150+ depending on which one is used in whatever model of dryer you have. You can read about what information is needed to get replacement parts for your appliances in the 'Repair Parts' section of my web site linked below.
