  • Maytag washer problem

I have a Maytag washer (model #A8650) aprox. 10 years old. The last couple times that we have used it we smell a burning rubber/smoke smell. And also there is a loud whining noise; I believe this all only occurs in the final rinse/spin phase. Could this just be a new belt issue? Or maybe something else? What does a belt look like when it needs replacing?
    Thanks for any help!

    Yes

If you look at the belts and they are glosy looking like they have been slipping it's time to replace them.

If you have never had the belts replaced before on your 10 year old maytag it's time to do so.

The belts are very easy to replace.

The belts do not look glossy, they look dried out and cracked. The edges of the belts are not smooth they are more jagged, like you could peel away at the belt. I'm pretty sure the belts have never been changed.

As you described the condition of the belts in you reply post above, the belts are long past replacement time. Purchase new ones and replace them. Doing that will solve the problem and stop the burning smell you mentioned in your first posted question.

Just be sure to make mental or physical drawing on paper how the belts loop around and over each pulley before removing either belt. Doing it this way insures trouble free reinstallation.
