I have a KitchenAid side-by-side refrigerator, model # KSR6220FAL01. When I try to dispense water, there is a very long delay, and then the water comes out. It started a few weeks ago with a two second delay. Now sometimes it won't dispense at all, for a while. It seems that if I push the lever several times, then it starts dispensing again. I took off the outside cover and tested the small electric switch, which works fine. I removed the four visible screws that seem to hold the mechanism to the door, but it was still held fast to the door. What next? I hope I don't have to call a repair person for this.

You are right. The correct serial number is KSRS22QFAL01. And the water always shuts off immediately. My newest discovery is that if I press and release the dispenser lever 5 or 6 times, then the water comes after only a very short delay. As if there is a capacitor charging, or something. Thanks for your replies.

You may need to check that tank as the dispenser is being operated to see exactly what is going on. If either of the cases I mentioned is occuring, something will likely need to be done to the tank. It can either be replaced with a similar molded plastic one (see the first link below) or with a replacement 'kit' (the second link) which doesn't usually experience such failures.
