  • Maytag dishwasher - was quiet, now loud

I have a Maytag Model MDB-3 dishwasher that I've had since 2003. It was super quiet while running until recently and now is rather loud. It definetly sounds like the motor, as the noise occurs during the wash and rinse cycles. It is under warranty for the part only, I would have to pay for the labor. But I was wondering if it is possible that is is something easier than replacing the motor, that I could do myself. It seems strange that the motor would be shot after only 3 years. I thought Maytag was a really good brand.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Brands dont mean much these days... you may have something in the pump housing... Remove the lower spray arm and the screws on th cover the expose the pump.. clean out and reassmble

I'm afraid that is not a model number. The only reliable place you'll find the proper model number is on the appliance's model and serial number identification tag. You can find tips for locating that tag on your appliances in the 'Repair Parts' section of my web site linked below.

How about the drain cycles? The same pump and motor is usually responsible for that as well.

I don't know about easier but some other cause may be a possibility. Maybe something has gotten into the pump as Disgruntled suggested, maybe the pump impeller come off the motor shaft and is rubbing against the housing?? There's no way to be sure until someone actually looks into it.

It wouldn't if you'd ever been in the appliance business. Appliances fail even withing the first year warranty period. If appliances never broke down, the manufacturers wouldn't need to warrant them at all (or could forever).
