  • Maytag gas dryer gets very hot

I have a 1997 Maytag gas dryer Model PYG2000 that still works OK. However I noticed recently that the machine and the laundry room gets very hot when we run the dryer. We clean the lint trap before every load and I clean the vents and the inside of my dryer of lint (and I mean, I open up the panel and literally get into the insides) about twice a year. There is no burning smell when the dryer runs, but the machine and the laundry room does get very hot. What do you think causes this and how do I resolve it? Thanks.

    Check venting

That is only part of a model number, did you get it right off the appliance's model and serial number identification tag? That is the only reliable place the complete information will be found.

You can find tips for locating the model number identification tag on your appliances in the 'Repair Parts' section of my web site linked below.

It sounds like there may be an air flow problem.

How about the vent ducting *all the way from the dryer to the outdoors*?? The following link has more on that:

Poorly installed, plugged or partially plugged venting is the most common cause of your stated symptom. Being a gas dryer, use should probably be discontinued until corrected. If the dryer isn't venting properly, combustion fuses from the gas burner could be remaining in your home. That could be very dangerous!

      Maytag PYG2000AWW gas dryer

Yes, I also vacuum the duct and clear it out periodically. I keep a good space between the wall and the dryer so the flexible duct is not squished. The complete model# of my dryer is PYG2000AWW. Thanks.

From end to end, not just from the dryer to the wall?

the flexible duct is not squished.
It is not flexible vinyl is it!?

        That's better.

If the venting in definitely Ok all the way from the dryer to the outdoors and the flapper cover outside is working properly, there might be an airflow problem inside the dryer. Bad drum seals or the blower fan not working properly might be possibilities.
