  • Maytag MGR5770ADW gas range problem

I have a Maytag MGR5770ADW gas range. I recently moved this range with a hand truck while doing some work in the kitchen. Now the oven keeps shutting down both during preheating and after reaching the selected temperature.
I checked the resistance of the oven probe and it was right on spec at room temperature.
I've noticed that the backsplash, which contains the clock/oven control, now gets very hot when using the oven. I suspect that the excessive heat is causing the electronic controls to shut down resulting in the oven being turned off.
When this happens the clock goes dark for several minutes. When the clock comes back on I am able to reset the oven temperature and try again. This on-off cycle repeats over and over.
Could some kind of heat shield have shifted when I moved the range? If so where is it and how do I get it back where it belongs?
Or, could this problem indicate that my clock/control unit is going bad?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions,
    Craig

If the oven vent is at the base of the control console (I can't tell), it might be venting into the console which could possibly cause the electronic control to overheat and 'wink out'.

Some range models have a cooling fan inside the console to cool its components which if malfunctioning could cause the same thing but I don't see such a fan listed for your model. Someone could actually look and see.

There shouldn't usually be any other way for oven heat to get there... at least nothing easily jostled to cause it.

** could this problem indicate that my clock/control unit is going bad? **

If the control area temperature is actually normal, I would say component failure might be a good possibility. Such components can exhibit such symptoms when they begin to fail.
