I have a GE TFX22ZR side by side refrigerator. It has the ice and water in the door and the water will work but the ice maker will not. It does not even make ice and I can't seem to get the tray to fill up with water. I am tired of filling ice trays someone please help me. Thanks,
    Mike

the water path is from your inlet to two solenoids. one operates off the door switch paddle for water, the other operates off the ice maker timer. the selector in the door picks water only or ice (operates the screw motor in the harvest bucket. in the bucket is a bail wire that detects ice as it is produced. with the bail all the way up and locked ice will not be produced. there's a microswitch connected to the bail wire. check out this pathway.

      HayZee,
Thanks but I have checked that. It worked fine when we bought this house and we remodeled the kitchen and now it does not work anymore. The thing with this fridge that gets me is the inconsistency in temp. more so noticeable in the freezer than the fridge. Ice cream will be very soft at times and very hard at other times in the same day. Could that temp variation be part of the problem. I was going to replace the water valve at the back right corner but that thing is $80 and I am not sure if that will fix the problem. Thanks.

ok, you'll need to check on why the freezer compartment isn't getting cold enough. check the condenser coils on the back of the fridge for dirt/dust. if the fridge can't get rid of the latent heat then nothing will freeze. check the circulator fan in the freezer compartment.

That model number is incomplete, did you get it right off the appliance's model and serial number identification tag?

You can find tips for locating that identification tag on your appliances in the 'Repair Parts' section of my web site linked below.

I can't seem to get the [icemaker] tray to fill up with water.
If you fill the icemaker's mold manually with water, will it freeze and then dump the ice automatically? That should at least tell if the icemaker is capable of functioning properly.

            Dan,
That model # is off of the fridge door. It is not actually off the ice maker. I will check to see about a more complete # and fill the tray and see if it dumps. Thanks for the info.

It is the model number of the whole refrigerator that is needed, not icemaker. What you posted is close but incomplete as it was likely just taken from an information label and not from the appliance's actual identification tag. It's proper identification tag will have both the model number and serial number on it.

I will fill the tray and see if it dumps.
Let us know the results and we'll see if we can suggest a course of action.

                Dan,
I put water in the tray and it froze but it will not dump. The door panel for the ice will turn the corkscrew in the ice bucket. Again the ice maker will not dump when the ice is frozen in it. The complete Model number is:
TFX22ZRXA WW and serial # is GM210134. Let me know what I need to do next. Thanks,
                Mike

                  Icemaker won't dump either

That will be why it isn't filling, both functions are tied together in the icemaker's timing.

Assuming the icemaker's shut-off 'feeler' arm is not just raised in the off position, the icemaker not functioning at all could be caused by it just not receiving power. Check to make sure its harness hasn't become unplugged. Someone might have to actually check for power at the harness plug in the wall to confirm it is getting power.

It could also be caused by the freezer being too warm. The freezer needs to be in the area of 5°F or less for the icemaker to function. (Water freezes at only 32°F). Check the freezer temperature with a thermometer.

If needed you can read about possible causes of refrigerator cooling problems at the following link:

LINK > My frost free refrigerator is not cooling properly. What might be the problem?

Lastly, a problem in the icemaker itself could be the cause if the freezer IS cold enough and the icemaker IS getting power.

The door panel for the ice will turn the corkscrew in the ice bucket.
That operation has nothing to do with the icemaker itself (even if they both handle the cubes at some point). They are two totally separate mechanisms.

The complete model number is TFX22ZRXA WW
                  That's better.
