  • Maytag dishwasher MDB7650AWS

    Hi,

Dishwasher is 2 1/2 years old. Suddenly began displaying "L" for control lock when wash cycle buttons are depressed. Power cycling and sequential pressing of wash cycle buttons has no affect. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Control lockout?

From page 9 of the owner's manual:

    Maytag Owner's Manual Wrote:

If a cycle or option pad is pressed after the controls have been locked, the indicator light next to the lock graphic will flash five times. On selected models with a countdown display, the display will flash an “L” simultaneously with the lock indicator.

    • This option does not lock the door, only the dishwasher controls.

    Setting the Control Lock:

    1. Press the Heated Dry pad for three seconds.
    2. An indicator light next to the lock graphic will illuminate when the controls are locked.

    To Cancel:

    1. Press the Heated Dry pad for three seconds.
    2. The indicator light will go off as instructed.

Did you try turning the lock off by those instructions?

      control lockout

      Hi Dan,

Thanks for replying. I should have mentioned that I first tried
to remove the lockout as per the manual; i.e., by pressing
      "Heated Dry" for 3 seconds.

I should add that the control lockout indicator light is NOT lit,
as it should be according to the manual.

BTW, I was unable to locate this particular model for repair parts
on the home repair website, even though it is a fairly new model.

Other threads have indicated these types of problems are due to
bad connections to the control pad and perhaps the control panel
      itself. Any thoughts on this?

So much for the easy route.

'Strange' display and/or control problems are more often the result of a malfunctioning electronic control board but can be because of poor connections to the control panel or in control panel itself. My guess would be the electronic control board (see the following link) although a 'stuck' key in the control panel keypad *might* (only slim chance) also cause it.

It may be possible to disconnect the control keypad from the control board temporarily to see if the same display continued. If the same display did continue even while the keypad was disconnected, the control board itself would be most suspect IMO.

BTW. The control on some models may display errors without the keyboard connected so that test might not be helpful in isolating the problem, depending on how yours was designed to act under that condition.

There might also be a slim possibility a problem in a door switch might cause your particular display. It would certainly stop the machine from operating.

There is often some lag time in the manufacturers getting new model parts lists out and more lag until the online sites can incorporate the new data into their services. I did find one web site with your dishwasher model listed (see the following link).

        JFYI
