  • Subzero Icebox

I have a customer who asked Me about Her subzero freezing up on the back wall in the corner. There is a thick layer of ice in one area that wont go away, any ideas, it seems to cool okay but its getting old and they want to know if they should spend more money on it or buy a new one
    Thanks

    More information required

    ** Subzero Icebox **

I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its exact model number.

    ** Icebox **

Is this appliance just a freezer or the freezer of a refrigerator? (BTW we will be able to tell that once you supply its model number.)

** There is a thick layer of ice **

Clear "ice" or white snow-like "frost"? It is an important distinction.

** freezing up on the back wall in the corner. **

On part of the refrigeration system? If not, on which component(s)??

Sub-Zero refrigerators and freezers can be very tricky to service. If you're never worked on one before I would *strongly* suggest you have your customer call a Sub-Zero *factory authorized* service depot for anything but a simple electrical problem or maybe cleaning its condenser.

I can get the model number but what Im looking for is another opinion to pass along to the customer. They want to know what the problems could be and if they should spend another $ 1000.00 on a 10-15 year old subzero. They already contacted the authorized repair man and thats his estimate to fix it, give or take a few hundred. They just want My opinion and Im leaning towards buying a new one since this guy has to be called at least once a year.

        Insufficient information to make recommendation

        .
Without knowing the appliance in question nor having a more detailed description of the problem, it is unlikely anyone would even be able to guess at the cause at this point.

** if they should spend another $ 1000.00 on a 10-15 year old subzero. **

Considering a replacement could easily cost $2,500 to $5,000+ to replace depending on the model in question, $1,000 may not be a lot depending on what its prognosis is.

** since this guy has to be called at least once a year. **

That shouldn't be the case if it was ever repaired properly.

I'm afraid we are only getting a very small part of the story here, insufficient to make a $1,000++ judgement one way or the other. If you want to, go ahead. It is your opinion they are asking for anyway?

I myself would go with whatever a service person that actually had a chance to check it out said. What did he recommend, repair or replacement? If they don't trust it, see if there is another factory authorized service depot in the area to have inspect it and estimate repairs.
