  • Badger 5 Plus 5/8HP Insinkerator Garbage Disposal

    Hello:

My badger is leaking from the bottom right where the hardwire comes out. I have been doing some research and am trying to find out if there is a seal that is gone that I can replace rather than getting a new disposal. Also, if that is possible...any advise on how to take unit apart would be greatly appreciated.

There is a ceramic/carbon disk seal on the motor shaft right before the grinding chamber. Its extremely difficult to take out and replace. Best get a new disposal unit

that posting is more than a year old - the ceramic/ carbon disk is very hard to take out. the whole disposal needs to be taken apart. the hardest thing to remove is the grinding disk which is fastened to the top of the motor shaft. one part of the seal is pressed into the motor end bell, the other part is pressed into the grinding chamber housing. more than likely garbage water has gotten into the motor workings and corroded those parts. a new unit is easier to replace than the individual parts.
