  • Maytag Dryer Help

Hello. I just replaced the motor and belt on my LDE 410 dryer. The first time I went to try with a full load of clothes the dryer struggled to turn the drum unless I turned it by hand while holding the door switch and the door open. Once I took out a couple pair of jeans it seemed to run alright. I never had this problem before the motor swap. Would putting a stiffer spring on the idler wheel help. My thought it that maybe the belt is slipping some.

My other issue is that now I have a squeaking/rattling noise down by where the motor/belt/tenisnor setup is that I can't seem to figure out as well. Any ideas on what to look for?

    Thanks

Maybe something wasn't reassembled properly and the drum is binding shomehwere? Was the drum removed for the service?

Did you install the belt with its grooves against the drum or the flat side against the drum?

If it wasn't needed before it shouldn't be needed now. I would suggest you not try to modify the design of the dryer or its parts.

Maybe a worn idler (belt tension) pulley?

it IS possible to put the belt on the wrong side of the idler. consult the belt installation diagram for your dryer.

Yes I had to remove the drum to install the motor. The belt was installed with the flat side against the drum. Is there some way to make sure I have the drum aligned properly? Everything seemed to go together with no issue when I put it back together. Obviously it wasn't .

I had a thought on the vibration. Could the squirrel cage fan be to close housing?

Good. That's the way it is suppose to be on older Maytag dryer models.

I don't know of a way besides just visual observations.

Could the squirrel cage fan be too close [to the] housing?
If it was actually touching it might be possible and would likely strain the motor. Are there any signs of rubbing on the fan blade or housing?

There wasn't when I first pulled the dryer apart. I haven't checked yet to see.
