I have a Whirlpool side by side Freezer/Refrigerator.
Model Number: ED22QFXHT00
Serial Number: SK0229552
Date Mfg: 01-00
We bought the unit new in 2000. We have moved twice since and brought it with us. I have changed the filter several times as needed during its lifetime.
A couple of weeks ago one of the plastic pieces in the door flap where the ice comes out became broken, and the level/door assembly wouldn't function correctly... I figure, "no problem, just get the ice out the old fashioned way." however, last week, the icemaker stopped dumping. I figured it had gotten frozen up, maybe some warm air was leaking into the freezer through the door flap, whatever. I got a hair dryer and defrosted everything, and the icemaker arms started to turn and dumped the ice cubes that were at that time in the tray... i figured this was a good thing. However, now it will not fill back up with water. I have tried several times to get it "restarted" but no luck.
This afternoon I filled the trays up manually with water and waited to see if it would dump... it would not. I got tired of waiting for it to work and so got some wire and jumped the "H" and "T" connections, which I read is supposed to start it up... well the arms turned but could not push out the ice, and I noticed that the heating element did not get warm. I used the hair dryer again to warm things up and then the arms were able to push the cubes out... but after they went around to "home", still no water filled the tray.
What should I try next? Is the ice maker shot? i know the lines are not frozen, I check that first. There isn't any water in the icemaker supply line. What have I missed?
Thank you for the help.
Jason
