  • Maytag Bottom Freezer Ice Maker Dripping

My Maytag PBF1951HEW bottom freezer fridge has water slowly dripping from the back of the icemaker. This is leading to big block of ice forming when all the cubes in the bin freeze together. Can anyone help?

      Water pressure problem?

water slowly dripping from the back of the icemaker.
If you mean water continues to drip even after filling should have stopped, the problem is likely either insufficient water pressure to the fridge's water valve or the water valve is defective and needs to be replaced.

Possible causes for water pressure problems include a partially plugged sediment screen (if installed) at the fridge's water valve, a kink in the water line leading to the fridge or more commonly, a problem at the water valve on the house water supply pipe.

The use of a 'self piercing' saddle valve on the house water pipe or any type of saddle valve mounted on the underside of a water pipe would be suspect. Sediment tends to settle in bottom-mounted valves restricting their aperture, a self-piercing valve having an extremely small aperture to begin with.

Only a drill type saddle valve (if not a regular plumbing tap) should be used and only mounted on the side of a vertical pipe or the top of a horizontal pipe.

BTW. Most manufacturers specifically state not to use a self-piercing saddle valve right in their refrigerator installation instructions.
