We had a range in our garage for a couple years in storage. I thought I would surprize my wife and install it in the house... (she is out of town until tomorrow). It is one of those nice glass top, Maytag Gemini double oven ranges that take the same space as a single. Well, when moving it, I thought I noticed the smell of mouse urine. Took it apart and sure enough, evidence of mice... insulation stained with urine and some droppings. Even found a dead mouse stuck in the back.
Took it all apart, cleaned and sanitized everything I could get to real well, but did not remove and replace insulation.
Well.... thought it would be a good idea to run ovens on about 500 to kill any bacteria in ovens.. BTW no evidence of mice getting into ovens.
Once the ovens got heated up... man did that stink of mouse pee! I think that urine in insualtion got heated up and started evaporating.. also , my guess is there may be some urine on outside of ovens, that may have soaked through the insulation.
Can I make this go away? What if I did a cleaning cycle... could I basically burn the urine smell out?
Big bummer. It is a really nice range.
Anyone ever had anything like this happen before?
Is it terribly hard (and expensive)to rewrap insulation on ovens?
BTW.. not just concerned about the smell, but possibility of diseases getting into the air and breathing it in.
Thanks!
