  • warm freezer

I have a GE Profile model psc25mstass fridge. Today some of the food was thawed so I put a thermometer in there and the temp was 41 degrees but the indicator on the fridge side showed a temp of 1. About 1 week ago ice from the icemaker melted also.

    Clarification needed

I put a thermometer in there
In where? The fridge compartment? The freezer compartment??

the temp was 41 degrees but the indicator on the fridge side showed a temp of 1.
Do you mean the control was displaying the freezer temperature as being 1 when in fact the freezer temperature was 41?

        Thermistor or control problem?

If the display is displaying an incorrect temperature, I would think either the temperature sensing thermistor (see the following link) for that compartment was defective or the electronic control might be malfunctioning.

Thanks for your help Dan, it has been problem free until today. When it originally occured I turned the icemaker off. I turned the icemaker back on today and the problem has returned. Will the part you said might be the problem cause this condition with the icemaker on?

The icemaker being on or off should have no bearing on the operation of the controls. I have no idea how it could affect it.

Could something within the icemaker be overheating at times and causing the problem? According to the wiring diagram on the icemaker cover there is a thermistor in there too. No problems since removing the icemaker from the freezer. Thank you again for not giving up on this problem.

There is a heater inside the icemaker which if it failed in a certain (uncommon) way could generate heat. That heat however should be reflected in the temperature display which you stated was not occurring.

No parts are available for the icemaker separately. If any problem occurred with it, the whole icemaker would have to be replaced.
