  • Side By Side Center Post "Hot"

I don't have make kodel number yet, but my son called said the center post on his side by side is really hot. Refrig and freezer still working. Until I can get details on make model, does anyone have rough idea what might be causing the "hot" problem?
    Ap[reciate any info.

    Flange Loop

After researching this problem a little, I think it has to be the flange loop that is making the center post, and I have to believe the entire flange around the freezer door, "hot". Possible causes might be 1) normal ops of the system but not noticed in the past, 2) the freezer door was left open for extended period causing the loop to operate for a period long enough to make the flange "hot", or 3) there is something causing the freezer door not to close air tight again causing the loop to operate for an extended period. Other than these 3 possible causes are there any possible mechanical, i.e. timers, thermostats, etc, that could be the problem?
    Again, thanks for any help.

a frost free refrigerator has this thing called a mullion heater. it is a low wattage heater that is mounted in the center post and all around the refrig door area. the doors are movable for adjustment. check yours with a piece of paper all around the sealing surfaces. the "seal" is a flexible magnet. then either insert or remove hinge shims to bring the door into intimate contact with the door flange.

That's unfortunate as it is the only way for us to find out what appliance design you're dealing with. Without it all we can do is guess.

the center post on his side by side is really hot
On most refrigerators in the last 10-15 years part of the refrigeration system's condenser tubing is routed through the 'mullion' between the doors to help prevent condensation from occurring there. If the rest of the condenser can not dissipate heat properly, excess heat will migrate to the mullion area making it extra hot.

In such a case making sure the main condenser is *thoroughly* clean and the condenser fan motor (if used on whatever model is involved) is operating should be done.

        JFYI

          Make and Model

I know in order to determine how the mfg built the system you need the Make and Model. However, getting it across to someone who lives a hundred miles away that in order for knowledgable individuals to help, information and communication is essential isn't always easy.
Therefore, I am going to send my Son the Web address for this Forum so he can provide the information you need.
I really appreciate your taking the time to respond, so again I want to Thank You, both responders, for your efforts.
