  • dryer stops getting gas after 1 "cycle"

Amana dryer, model # LG8469W2. Dryer starts fine AFAICT...heating element fires up and a few seconds later gas ignites. It burns for a few minutes and then the gas stops. A few minutes later, the element fires up again...but instead of gas igniting there is a clicking sound (grating?) and nothing happens. This then repeats itself over and over again. I found a couple forum entries where the coils seemed to be the likely culprit. I have replaced the coils, but still having the exact same symptoms. What next? Keep in mind I am of limited means mechanically;-)

    TIA, Matt

Also, right around the time this started the vent popped off where it leaves the house. Coincidence right? Just thought I'd mention it.

check the vent pipe [hose] the whole length. pay particular attention to any elbows. remove any lint throughout the whole vent system.
I don't understand your meaning of the "coils." the gas igniter could be a hot surface igniter or a spark with a spark generator.

I have checked the vent pipe/hose and it is clear. The coils are apparently referred to as "gas valve coils". There are two that connect to the gas valve. I replaced these coils. The igniter appears to be some sort of heating element (so hot surface?). Here is a post about a similar problem:

Hmm..I'm too new to post links. you'll have to prefix the below with this sites hostname.

The biggest difference is that I can hear a loud clicking/grating sound when the dryer is trying to light that second time (and each time thereafter). This happens in both timed or "auto-dry" modes.

ok, the igniter heats up off a relay from the control board so its more less silent. there will need to be a pilot off the main valve that ignites and establishes the flame prove relay - flame rod or cad cell. then the main valve opens. you replaced the valve coils so my next area to investigate would be the control board.
