  • Ice Maker won't stop filling

    Kenmore Fridge Mod 363-9741714 had the ice maker replaced about 4 years ago with ice maker wr30x10061. When it is filling the water hose pulsates so bad that I have to turn off the i/maker to stop it or it keeps filling to no end. The pulsating almost becomes a bang. I have filled it manually and it is freezing the cubes and will see if it goes thru the dumping process and then see if it goes into the fill cycle and what happens. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, OMB

    Ice maker won't stop filling

    UPDATE - The water I had manually poured in to the ice maker has frozen and the cubes are ready. However, I had the ice maker off to keep the water from flowing. When I turn it back on to see if it will dump the ice, water starts to flow, starts to bang and the water hose starts to pulsate again.

    Thanks, OMB

      Icemaker keeps filling

      I have no idea what would cause your pulsating hose but there are two possibilities for water to the icemaker not shutting off;

      1. The icemaker is continually powering the water valve (ie. an internal icemaker defect) or

      2. The water valve (see the link below) is defective and not stopping the water when it should.

      A defective water valve would let water through it whether powered or not so turning off the icemaker (or unplugging the whole fridge) would have no effect. If the water flow stops by turning the icemaker OFF, it is an electrical problem and a defective icemaker is about the only possibility. It probably needs to be replaced... again.

        the water valve is an electrical solenoid who's spool is spring loaded to shut off. some solenoids use the water pressure to accompany the closing process. I would suspect the fill timer first before the water valve itself.
