  • Hotpoint WLW1500 washer tub "stabilizer" service?

Installed 1993. Tranny grease leaked out years ago. Drive Belt threw "atomized" grease that found it's way down to the two rear "tub stabilizer" (proper term?) friction devices.

I think these two (now slippery) stabilizers are causing imbalance symptoms that would otherwise be controllable. So I plan clean the friction "shoes" and contact plate surfaces with carb cleaner, then fasten some kind of plastic cover to keep future* grease off.

    Opinions or suggestions on this?

    * Tranny Future — Is it worth the effort to try sealing and refilling the tranny, after years of running on empty? It works and sounds OK to me, but it emptied so slowly over months/years that I don't know what "normal" is anymore.

That model number is incomplete. Did you get it right off the appliance's model and serial number identification tag? That is the only reliable place the complete information will be found.

You could try but usually damage would have been done to internal components and replacing the transmission would be the correct way to fix the washer. Besides the fact that no individual part are likely available to try to repair the transmission itself.
