  • Dryer Assembly: Two Screws Left Over...any suggestions?

    make: GE Profile
    model: DPSQ495ET0WW
history: bought it second had a year or so ago, not sure how old it is.

I had a repair guy come out and take my dryer apart and he showed me that one of my elements had gone out. When I saw how simple it was going to be to repair, I figured I would just fix it myself. So I ordered the element repair kit and have installed it.

Since I didn't take the dryer apart, I used the instructions here:

    http//fixitnow.com/2003/11/appliance-tip-of-day-dryer-disassembly.htm

For GE, New Style, Variation 1 to put it back together.

It has gone back together nicely and everything seems like it should work ok at this point. I have one problem though, two screws left over and I am not sure where they should go.

The repair man had taken off the top and front of the dryer and removed the drum. He left me six screws:

2 - short silver screws, flat tip
2 - short black screws, pointed tip
2 - long silver screws, pointed tip

The short black screws went here:

The long silver screws went here:

But I am not sure what to do with the short silver screws. I have attached a picture and I am hoping someone will be able to tell me where to put these.

    Thank you in advance.

PS: sorry about the URLs above, add ":" after http, I was not allowed to post URLs.

Did you put the two screws back on by the lint filter at the top? It appears that you had to remove these two screws first before the top was popped up. See a very similar dryer at Kenmore Dryer Heating Element & Belt Replacement Model 11066512690

Thanks for the reply...my dryer is different and doesn't have the lint trap on the top like the Kenmore. The lint trap is behind the door under the opening and there are no screw holes there.

Do you have a toe panel on that dryer? If so the screws may go along the bottom edge. The only other thing I can think of is perhaps on the control console, either the bottom of the end caps (although those do not look long enough) or securing the backs panel to the control console.

they may hold the rear spring clips that hold the top down.

You will need an old Baby food jar. You will have it full in no time and have lots of spare screws when you come up a few screws short like the rest of us geniuses do from time to time.

Well, I called the repair guy who took it apart and he gave me basically the same advice. That was a little discouraging for me, as I was hoping he would remember where they went.

I also read the other posts. I didn't understand all of kencraw's post, but the couple parts I did understand I had felt like I had already looked in those places.

So, I decided to just go ahead and put it back together. But when I started doing so, the holes in the bottom of the end caps caught my attention. I had looked at them before but dismissed it because they just looked like holes in the plastic. But then I remembered kencraw's post mentioning something about endcaps, so I looked closer. And wouldn't you know it, that exactly where the screws went! They held down the end caps to the top of the side panels. I just couldn't see that the hole went all the way through until I got right up over the hole and looked straight down.

The diagram doesn't even show a screw at that location.

Anyway, thanks to all of you for taking the time to post, the dryer is back together and working and I saved about $130 (not including my time) by doing it myself.
