GE Nautilous Dishwasher drains too many times

Hi. My dishwasher takes in water OK, but then it turns around and drains most of it back out so the dishes don't wash properly. Also, is it normal for the dishwasher to drain every time the door is opened and closed, too? Anyone know why this may be?

I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its exact model number. If you post it we can at least look it up to see what appliance design you're dealing with.

That will depend on how the particular model was designed. Check the owner's manual to see what it says about interrupting a cycle.

the washer should have a timing chart as to what happens at every timed interval during the wash - drain cycle. it could be between the inner door and outer panel.
