    Hi i have lost the picture and sound to my sony kv-32dx30u TV all I get is a high pitched noise coming from the set, can anyone help?

    first place to look is in the power supply. a leaky or shorted capacitor will manifest itself as a blown open or bulging capacitor can. a thermistor looks like a flat ceramic capacitor, orange or deep red in color can burn out. its function is to reduce the sudden jolt of current inrush to the set. its resistance changes as the current is regulated. check for blown fuses in the low voltage end. the high voltage for the picture tube is a voltage tripler [solid state] device - older tv-s used what is called a flyback coil or transformer. voltage on the tube can be as high as 35kv be careful!
