  • GFI questions

If there is ONE thing that I have probs with, it's GFI--mainly because I can't get answers to the questions I have. Was told by electrician that GFI can only reset so many times before it stops working. T or F? Told by electrician that a LONG line added to the load side can trip the GFi T or F? Told by electrician that if too many resistance devices on line, it will trip GFI (even thought not used at same time) T or F? All come from different electricians, BTW. Anyone with correct answers? Thanks

    GFCIs

ground fault devices trip if more than 6 milliamps travel between a hot wire and earth ground/ a gfci measures the current going to a device and what returns on the neutral. any imbalance will trip the device.
as long as the downstream fed side of a gfi is open and doesn't present a grounded load on it, it will supply power to a device.
a set of hard contacts inside the gfi trips or opens on an imbalance. that's the click you hear when it trips.
