  • LED in Decor Light Switch

I am changing out all the light switches in the house to decor light switches. I have heard people adding an LED so the switch would light up at night. Does anyone know what is the formula or calculation for which resistor size?

Why not buy them with the lamp in them already? Much easier that way!

An LED requires DC voltage, hence requires a minipower supply, etc., etc. Not worth the trouble. They sell all sorts of lighted switches. I've used lighted toggles for years and M-H used to make lighted switchplates. However, for the DIYer it is feasible to wire in neon lamps (encapsulated with dropping resistor) which are mounted onto the switchplate, though there may be a code problem involved here.

LEDs are DC as already stated. Neon lamps glow when AC is applied. The dropping resistor limits current and is usually 33K ohms in series with one lead. But as stated a code violation might be present. Perhaps you can get around it if all leads are covered except for the terminations.
