GFCI Tripping

GFCI outlet in our kitchen - When I insert the electrical plug for a small lamp in the outlet, the lamp works-- until I completely insert the plug. When I plug it in all the way, the reset button pops out and I have to reset it. On the occasion when it doesn't trip when I insert the plug, it pops out when I begin removing the plug and I have to reset it again.

Any suggestion?

Try plugging a different item into the GFCI. If it doesn't trip the GFCI then this is an indication that your GFCI is working properly and that you have a problem with the lamp. Could be the cord or something else but don't use the lamp anymore until it's fixed.

Kactus, Don't you have that backwards? If it DOESN'T trip the second GFCI, wouldn't that mean the first GFCI is bad? and If it DOES trip the Second GFCI, the first is working, and there's a problem with the lamp...
