  • Bathroom Light and Fan Connection Question

    Hi all:

Coming into a bathroom switch box I have 3 wires:

1)Black and white from the breaker
2)Black and white from the light fixture
3)Black, white and red from the fan

I would like to connect the switches and get these fixtures working. I think I know the basics, but I'm a little confused on why I have black, white and red from the fan.

Help on how I can complete all of the connections greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark.

The red and black wires are separate powers for the fan and light. If you had a double switch receptacle with two blacks and two whites you would the hook the black to black and the red to black on the other one. However you only have one power going to your switch, What you need to do it join both the black and red to the black wire and the white to the white. This way when you throw the switch both the fan and light turn on at the same time.
