replaced wall socket next to sink. If you plug electrical device into socket, it will start to work for 2 seconds and then cut off. I replaced the wires the same I found them. Is is possible is was wired wrong? Does that socket require a gfic socket since it is close to a water supply. Circuit breakers are all firm. Help appreciated !!!!!!

Anything within six feet (if I remember correctly) of a water source needs to be a gfci.
Are the breakers tripping? Do you have a good connection with your outlet and wires?
It is possible that the wiring pattern is different for the replacement and the original.
GFCI outlets usually come with instructions. You might want to buy try one.

Mike,
Is it possible that you have a gfci outlet 'upstream' from this outlet already. In another bathroom or outside? If you do it is possible that it is tripping. Not sure why it would reset though and I am assuming it does start to work again for you.
Good luck, Jim'Just a handyman trying to help'
