Wanting to change over my thermostat from the old style {the one you adjust with a lever} to a programable digital style. The heating unit I have is all electric with a heat pump and emergency heat back up {heat strips}. When it comes to the wiring in the new one are the instructions all that good in explaining the wiring? Can you wire in a programable digital thermostat to a heat pump? All replys are welcomed thanks in advance.-Ray

All you have to do is make sure that you buy a multi-stage thermostats (1 cool / 2 heat) Most places will have a thermostat that is marked for heat pumps. Once you get it, make sure to turn off all power to all units before taking the old one off. Not turning off the power will cause the transformer(s) in the system to short out easily. The instructions in the new thermostat should have the wiring for you situation.
