i was going to install a new thermostat for a ruud electric heat pump , and when i installed it the compresser would not come on but air would blow out the vents but something happened when i was gonna put old thermostat back on and now i have no power at thermostat connection , and it is cold in my house now , what have i done?

Have you checked the circuit breaker for the heat pump to make sure it has not tripped? Open the circuit breaker all the way and then close it all the way and see if you have power back again. But before doing so I suggest replacing the old thermostat.

You have probably either blown a fuse on the circuit board or the transformer. If you did not turn off the power to the unit before messing with the thermostat then that is probably what happened

Was your new thermostat specifically spec'd for your system( 1 or 2 stage heat )?
