  • Well pump wiring

Will install new wire at the same time as installing the new tubing from well to house. It's a shallow well jet pump of 1/2 hp and is 150' from the house, an additional 50' from circuit panel. Existing is 110V, but want to go to 220V. There's a switch on the motor to do that. Easy enough to do that. But....there's a black, white and green coming out of the motor case. Of coarse, the green goes to ground. Am I to understand that both, the black and the white would then be wired as hot? If I go for the four lead wire shall I run the black/white with ground, red tape both ends of the white to indicate hot, and ground as normal? This hookup is similar to a 220 water heater. And that I understand. But this is a motor. Is it because it's an induction motor that it doesn't need a neutral? Thanks for the help....(I.A.)
