  • Square D breaker panel....

Okay, so the ground is supposed to be separate from neutral. SO why (new box!) is therre continuity between neutral and ground when I check this? I thought out of of the box that the two were supposed to be separate...and if it was desired to connect the two, then to add the screw connector.

If the new box is to be used as a sub panel even with a main breaker installed, the neutral should be isolated from ground (equipment or metal box ground) by means of a jumper or screw provided. As a main panel the neutral and equipment ground should be bonded together using the jumper or screw. In the case of a sub panel an auxillary ground strip needs to be purchased and installed. all the bare grounds go to this auxillary ground strip.
