  • Ceiling Fan Strings

We just moved into this place. All of the ceiling fans in the bedrooms are on one switch to turn the light on and off, but for the fan you have to pull the string. My daughter turned on her fan and it was running on high speed and was out of balance. Somehow the string got wrapped around a blade and it pulled the metal string out of the fan and now it won't turn off unless I use the electrical box. Is there a quick fix?

    No. Not quick.

Carefully take the switch out of the fan nose cone. DO NOT remove the wires.
Note the design and style of the switch, OR, remove the switch and note exactly which wires go where.
Go to a home center and buy a replacement.

To remove the wires you stick a paper clip into the hole with the wire and remove both.
